Writing tool: “Sharpie”

Austin Kleon

Poem by Austin Kleon

Underneath those dark lines, patch an opening up of space to insert a new word or many words that begin, end, or extend an idea. That muddy hole is a pocket of sound and sense, an opportunity to take a risk, to write above and beneath words that already exist. Take a form of found text and begin to erase, open, darken, add, layer, write. Don’t glue down, rearrange, write again and again.
